Weekly rental vs buying a car for rideshare
Renting by the week and buying a car solve the same problem in different ways. The right answer depends on your numbers, so here is how to work it out instead of guessing.
What a weekly rental gives you
A weekly rental has a clear price, no large upfront purchase and no long commitment. Ours is $300-$400 per week plus applicable taxes, a $250 deposit and a one week minimum. Bookings longer than 8 weeks get a free $50 gas card. Maintenance and repairs: shared in your rental agreement.
What buying involves
Buying means a down payment or full price, monthly payments if you finance, insurance, registration, maintenance and repairs. You also own a car that loses value over time.
Do the math with your own numbers
Add up what you would pay in a month either way: weekly rental cost times the weeks you need, versus payment plus insurance plus maintenance plus fuel set aside for repairs. Then ask how long you plan to drive. For a short stretch or a trial, renting can cost less. For years of full-time driving, owning can win. Only you have the real figures.
Questions to settle first
How many weeks will you drive? Can you cover a deposit and a purchase? Which risk worries you more, a repair bill or a weekly rate? Is the car you want allowed on the app you drive for?
